Wagtail and ChatGPT: automatic text completion, a demonstration

In this demonstration, we will show you how to use Wagtail and GPT-4 AI to automatically generate content to create Web pages. This process uses a custom Wagtail module that significantly speeds up and simplifies page creation and content completion. Below is a step-by-step overview of how this technology works and what you can accomplish with it.

1. Create page with automatic completion

We start in the Wagtail admin. Where I want to add a new service page. Instead of writing the content manually, I use the custom module associated with GPT-4. This module automatically generates the required text.

Using a prompt, the module prompts GPT-4 to write relevant content, including the structure and required components. This saves time and provides a solid starting point for further editing of the page.

2. Automatic replenishment of components

In addition to the text, all parts of the page are automatically generated. Once GPT-4 completes the content, all that is left to do is add an image, and then the page is ready to be published. I think we can also add the image automatically if that should prove necessary

3. Page viewing and editing

After publishing, you can immediately view the live version of the page. For example, the example addresses the question "Why choose Wagtail?", with GPT-4 providing well-written text about the benefits of this powerful CMS designed specifically for SMEs.

4. Generate additional content

If the generated text is not completely to your liking, you can easily have additional content added. Again, this is done via a prompt in the Rich text editor. We are using GPT-4 in this case with a template prompt (see video). This allows you to quickly add new sections to the page or expand existing sections.

5. Correction and translation

In addition to content creation, GPT-4 can also help with corrections. For example, the AI can detect and correct spelling and grammar errors. But it goes beyond just text correction; you can have the entire page automatically translated using DeepL. This is done simply by clicking on the "Translate with DeepL" button, and the entire content will be converted to English or any other desired language.

6. Time savings and quality

This method offers significant time savings in creating and managing Web pages. Although AI is not yet perfect and can sometimes contain hallucinations (incorrect facts or excessive imagination), it provides a good basis for content creation. As AI evolves, the results will only get better.

7. Customized solution

The system shown in this demonstration was custom developed for our application with Wagtail and GPT-4. Although this workflow was created specifically for us, the concept can be applied in other Wagtail implementations to simplify content creation.

In short, this technology offers a powerful solution for creating Web pages quickly and efficiently, with much manual work taken over by the AI. Although it is not yet perfect, it is already making a big difference in the speed and quality of content creation.
